The Rachel Ehrlich Scholarship Fund

This fund acknowledges the mentorship of Rachel Ehrlich, who has dedicated her professional life to breeding and promoting quality Hanoverians and actively supporting and mentoring new breeders and riders who possess deep dedication to their horse’s welfare and proper development.

Objectives:

This fund provides scholarships to small breeders, trainers and riders of all levels who demonstrate the desire to breed and train quality Hanoverians and are looking to further their education related to this endeavor.

Funds may also be used to support and encourage the development of Hanoverians showing at rated USEF, USDF, USHJA, USEA, and YHS competitions to highlight the versatility of the Hanoverian breed and to further develop and promote the breeders, riders and trainers who compete with them.

General Requirements:

  • The applicant must be a current member of the American Hanoverian Society and a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Previous recipients of a scholarship from the Rachel Ehrlich Scholarship Fund may not apply.
  • Funding cannot be used for veterinarian and/or farrier expenses, board fees, living expenses, or the purchase of a horse or equipment. However, funds may be used towards show or clinic fees, including travel expenses and stabling.
  • The educational activity or show that the funds will be used for must be within two years (24 months) of the scholarship application deadline.
  • Awarded funds will be reimbursed to the recipient AFTER the event and only after proof of payment and attendance has been received by the AHS Foundation.
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to share photos and a written summary of their experience to be shared with the AHS Foundation, so they may be used in promotion of the Foundation and the Rachel Ehrlich Scholarship Fund.

Scholarship Amount:

  • Scholarships awarded will typically range from $500.00 to $3,000.00. The number of scholarships awarded will vary based on the quality and number of applications and will be at the discretion of the scholarship selection committee.
  • The maximum amount to be awarded annually from this fund is $3,000.00.
  • The committee reserves the right to not award a grant in any given year, if they determine that no candidate has met the criteria. Funds would then be held until the following year.

Deadline and Award Notification:

  • Applications are due April 1st of each year. Applications must be complete and submitted on time to be considered.
  • Incomplete applications and applications received after the stated deadline will not be considered.
  • The decision for this scholarship award will be made by May 1 of the same year the application is received. All applicants will be notified of the decision via email.

Additional Information:

  • If the scholarship recipient is unable to attend the program specified in their application, the AHS Foundation must be notified as soon as possible. Approval for a change in the use of funds is at the discretion of the scholarship selection committee.
  • The applications and discussions of the selection committee are confidential, and their decisions are final.
